What its about:
In my recent move to the Palmer-House a lot of my things were temporarily stored in out-of-the-way boxes, behind things...on top of shelves...with a mental label attached...”important to keep -not finished with it yet”.
One morning… a calm sunny day after Christmas...as I was sorting my little annex room that holds all my stuff that’s not textile…paints, tools, rollers, brushes, emergency solar lights etce...
I came across this old silver tin of mine...a box of possibilities...that I started many years ago...12…15...? Can it be ?
My very close friend Silke, shared part of the road of living our full and tumultuous life, and many, many conversations about it...the highs and lows of it all and how to better manage them. We walked often on Muizenberg Beach discussing ideas, dreams...and heartaches.
On one of our long walks we spoke about the possibility of leaving physical clues to ourselves that will help us on a ‘Blue Day'… and we decided there to make a 'First-Aid Kit for rainy days' ...and we did.
And here...so many years later, I am struck again with the idea of it... when I opened the box... I found a lot of wise words scribbled on bits of paper, references to book pages...movie titles ...activities that could help lift the spirit...the phone number of a friend, homeopathic remedy notes and lots of chocolate! Special chocolate...I wonder if one can still eat them.... hmm.
I am inspired again by the idea of it all...this clue from the past with its thoughts and hopes in various stages of dis-repair…clinging to the pages like some long forgotten scent of jasmine or myrrh...all these years the box sat on my bookshelf next to my CDs, ready to be opened or added to...it was so much part of my room that I forgot it was even there...until I moved.
My life has changed a lot since then...and now, this box is a delightful gift from the past that surprised me...with the treasures it held all these years...which kind of protected me by knowing it’s there...like a familiar place you know you can always go back home to.
As Silke and I saw the potential of adapting our 'Blue Box' into a workshop then...I still do so now...unfortunately for me, she lives now in Paris, or she would surely host this workshop with me. Rediscovering the box comes at the most appropriate time in my life…as I am taking stock of what worked, what didn’t...anymore...and make plans to find what will enlarge my life now...
I invite you to share in the unfolding of what I imagine to be a very rich and meaningful process for all. I am offering a space to participate in a journey of sharing...searching...and supporting where we workshop our ideas and lay out a path...where we leave our imaginary pebbles...not breadcrumbs...to find our way back home.
