Returning to Linz
In 1978 when I was a young art student at the Kunst UNI Linz - the NIKE 'angel' graced the beautiful building at the end of the Hauptplatz, where we went in and out everyday. Some people found it too modern for the old Barock Town square, others loved it...there was much talk about it then...
The Installation was the brainchild of the Artists and Architects group "Haus-Rucker-Co", of which Laurids Ortner, one of our proffessors at the - then, Hochschule für künstlerische und industrielle Gestaltung - was a founding member.
As this steel and fibre construct she hung high above our heads, lending an etherial presence to the city and our daily lives. For me she became a sort of metaphorical hallmark of my time there...
I am intrigued to hear that after 36 years NIKE returns to Linz...just like me... as I am going on a residency to the Salzamt Atelierhaus in Linz...virtually in walking distance from where we both 'met' so long ago.
There is some circle closing here...I like that!
